BOROUGH COUNCIL.
' REPORTS. The following reports will be submitted at the monthly meeting of the Borough Council this evening:— ENGINEER'S REPORT. Mr. C. Skitrop (borough engineer) reports as follows: — Owing to the weather and the holidays, this month has been slow, with regard to the progress of street and sewer works.
Streets.—Buller street east: The roadway and the path to the east end baths are about completed.
Sewers—The Molesworth street sewer .is now completed as far as Eliot street, and is now being continued on to Hobson street.
Ktrbing and Channelling.—The kerbing and channelling on the north side of Devon street between Liardet and Gov«r streets is now completed. The cost is slightly under the estimate. Waterworks.—The caretaker reports everything working satisfactorily. ELECTRICAL ENGINEER'S REPORT. The electrical engineer (Mr. H. Black) reports as follows: — Connections.—During the past month 33 new connections have 'been put on', making 201 for the year and a total to date of 855. Some new consumers are waiting to be connected, but as poles are required for some of them we have not been able to keep pace with the work. 'Meters.—Of "the meters on order, 200 have now been received, and of these 75 have been issued. Extensions.—Foundation plans for the' new turbines and generators are now to hand. The switchboard plans have not yet 'been received. WORKS COMMITTEE. The Works Committee recommends:— That the grant of right to lay storm water pipes on part Town Belt 5 from Mr. A. Standish be renewed on the terms set out in the letter from Messrs.' Standish and Standish; that Mr. A. Gray be informed that the drain through his property, corner of Pendarves and CamttoH street, is a natural watercourse and that the Council cannot accept any liability; that the Advisory Committee of the Technical 'School be requested to endeavor to arrange for classes for plumbing to be held at the Technical School; that the attention of Messrs. Smart Bros, be called to the fact that two of their employees are executing work notwithstanding that such employees are not in possession of plumbers' licenses; that a temporary license be granted to the Empire Theatre in terms of the letter from the New Plymouth Fire Board; that the application of the Fire Board for permission to use the telephone to the waterworks in case of emergency be granted; that a copy of the letter from the Fire Board with reference to the dilapidated sheds at the back of Currfe street he forwarded to the owner of the property; that the footpath in front of Mr. K. Webster's property in Carringtoa road ba kerhed with timber for a distance of two chains; that the District Engineer of Railways be informed that the agreement re Leach street submitted by him is not in accordance with the arrangement, made with the Department through Mr. Okey, M.P., and that a copy of the letter from the Department to Mr. Okey be forwarded to the District Engineer; that, as recommended by the borough engineer, one chain of concrete kerb and channel be laid near Mr. .Roberts' store, corner of Eliot and Lemon street, at a cost of £4; that Councillors Kibby and Jackson report upon » suitable site for a public pound in the Fitzroy .ward; that the borough engineer report upon a suitable site for a rubbish dump in the Fitzroy ward: that a committee, consisting of Crs. Jackson and Kibby, he appointed to submit a report to the Council meeting as to the street lighting at Fitzroy; tbat. in pursuance of and subject to> the powers vested in it by the Dog Registration Act, 1908, and the amendments thereto, the New Plymouth Borough Council hereby" fixes the registration fee for each dog within the said 'borough for the year ending 31st December, 1912, to be the sum of 10s, or os if paid before the 31st March, 1912, sheep and cattle dogs as described in sub-sections b and c of the above Act, 2s fid'; that in the event of the barbed wire fence in Devon street west not being removed within one week the Inspector take proceedings against the owner; that the report of the borough inspector with reference to non-compliance with notices served to connect with the sewers be referred back to him for fuller information; that the inspector report the names of all owners of hoardings refusing to pay the license fee; that Inspector Tippins submit a list of sections where there is a growth of noxious weeds, and that the inspector of noxious weeds be requested to take action in such cases; that in view of the special circumstances set put in his letter of the 4th inst.,.Mr. W. T. Jennings be granted two months' extension of time within which to connect his property in Couftenay street with the sewers; that the Taranaki County Council be requested to appoint a committee to confer with a committee of the Borough Council with reference to the jwotection of the Waiwakaiho bridge and to prevent the removal of stone from the vicinity of the 'bridge; that the borough engineer confer with Cr. Kibby and report as to formation and metalling required in the Fitzroy ward and an estimate of the cost.
ELECTRIC LIGHT COMMITTEE. The Electric Light Committee reports: That the electrical engineer submit a, report of the cost of reinforced' concrete poles and hav« six poles made by the borough staff as an experiment; that the electrical engineer submit to the council meeting a schedule of duties for the position of assistant at .the electric light station as recommended by him, and that he report whether any of his present staff are capable of filling the position; that the electrical engineer report to the committee monthly the cost of the work at the tail race and forebay, the number of men employed, and the progress of the work.
