ARRIVED. | Onehunga, Friday.—Arrived, at 8.5 j a.m., Rosamond, from New Plymouth. SAILED. '■ Port Chalmers, Friday.—Sailed, at 7.45 a.m., Den of Airlie, for Newcastle. THE RARAWA, The Rarawa arrived from Onehunga yesterday morning, but missed the mail train connection owing to her late arrival (accounted for by her late departure from the northern port), but connect-1 ed with the second train. One hundred [ tons of cargo were brought, which in- j eluded 15 tons of manure, 15 tons cement, i 9 tons flour, 9 tons sugar, and 720 cases of fruit, besides 1520 ft of timber. THE COkimna. PARITUTU FOR WELLINGTON. The Paritutu is to leave this morning for Wellington, where she is to go on the patent slip for overhaul. Her stay in Wellington depends on the amount of work requiring to be done. AN EXPENSIVE COLLISION. Instead of £20,000, as originally stated in some quarters, something like eight times that amount has been expended in repairing the Olympic. The damage sus,' tamed above the water-line was severe,, but it was slight compared with what was subsequently discovered .down be'ow, and it is matter for congratulation that the vessel was got back to Southampton without sinking. The hole below the water-line had a diameter of about 50ft. \ and the task of merely makingHhis huge opening watertight has proved extremely expensive. The interior of the second class and adjoining accommodation was also severely damaged, and it was necessary to largely reconstruct a large pcrj tion of this part of the vessel. At Lloyd's the general view appears to be that, while the cost of repairing the vessel will be at least £150,000, it may possibly amount to as much as £ 170,000. Such a large sum illustrates the tremendous risks which shipowners and underwriters, have to face in these days of oceangoing leviathans. On the other hand, had the Olympic been of smaller dimensions she would have been lost altogether. OVERSEA VESSELS.
