NORTH v. SOUTH TARANAKI. ij GWILLIM SCORES 144. COLLAPSE OF THE SOUTHERNERS. The second day's play was commenced at 11.30 yesterday morning, when Gwillim (91) and Osborne went in, Whe'lan •and Dunlop bowling. The score on Momday when stumps were drawn was 'ilH for seven wickets. After a few runs had been made, Osborne had just run a single, and, considering himself safe, stepped outside the crease to take a bit of soil off the matting, and the wicketkeeper (Hartley) promptly had his bails off. 324 —B—l. Arden joined Gwillim, and after getting a couple of singles, hit a boundary for four. Gwillim's score was near the century, and everyone was waiting for him to complete it, which a single did after a time.
