HEAVY RAINFALL, i By Telegraph.—Press Association. Timaru, Last Night. The rainfall inr Timaru dn December was 6% inches, the heaviest for the month since 1902. The heaviest fall was last Friday, when 1.3 inches waß recorded.
SHIPPING NEWS BY WIRELESS. Wellington, Last Night. Wireless reports to hand to-night are . to the effect that the Ulimaroa expects to arrive in Wellington from Sydney at ■ 7 o'clock to-morrow morning, and that the Aorangi expects to arrive from 'Frisco at 6 o'clock on Thursday morninfi. . . CYCLONE IN FIJI. Auckland, Last Night. The Talune, which arrived from Fiji to-day, reports that the hurricane at the end of last month did great damage to the banana crops on the islands. It is expected that this will affect future shipments of. bananas. JAPANESE VISITORS. Auckland, Last Night. Flying the Japanese flag and firing a salute of 21 guns as they entered the port, the two Japanese warships Aso and Soya arrived to-day from Suva. The vessels, which were captured from the Russians in 1904, will remain a week here and then proceed to Sydney. RearAdmiral Eato is in command.
