Because of his refusal to issue a prescription ordering a pint of whisky, a man named Hatfield shot dead Dr. Thornton, a well known physician at Charleston, West Virginia. ■Tha latter was attending an injured person when killed. Hatfield fled, but was captured. Fearing that he may be lynched a force of sheriffs are guarding the prison.
