A BARQUE WRECKED.
TRYING EXPERIENCES. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Sydney, January 2. A boat containing a mate and nine men of the Norwegian ship Askoy have arrived at Yamba. It is reported that the vessel is a total wreck on the Elizabeth reef, 300 ni'les due east of the Clarence river. She struck on Wednesday last.
The castaways had a trying experi ence in the bout.
Other advices state that another boat containing the captain and nine men of the Askoy's crew have reached Noumea. All aboard are thus accounted for.
SURVIVORS IX A BAD' STATE. Received 2, 10.5 p.m. Sydney, January 2. The Askoy survivors had a strenuous experience, and are in a bad state through the exposure and shortage of food. They state that the ship was driven on to Elizabeth Reef last Wednesday during thick weather. All are destitute, being unable to save anything from the wreck.
A message has been received stating that the captain's boat was picked up by the Ville Delaciotat on Sunday and conveyed to Noumea. The Askoy was bound from South America to Newcastle in ballast. HARD ON A REEF. Received 3, 12.30 a.m.Sydney, January 2. The Askoy was carried on to a reef at eleven o'clock at night by strong currents at high water. It is impossible to shift h«r. Nothing was seen of thereef before striking.
