THE DUTY OF THE CHURCHES.

Mr. Lloyd-Oeorge, at a religious conference at Cardiff, said that spasmodic appeals for charity were hopelessly inadequate as a remedy for the social problem. They might as well try to run the Army and Navy by voluntary subscriptions. There was more poverty today than ever, yet there was a sufficiency of wealth to make provision for it. They could not touch any evil in the country without finding interests flourishing thereon. It was the duty of the churches to compel the rulers of the country to rea&e their responsibilities in the matter.
