Mr. W. "Fraser, chemist, left for Auckland last evening. A Vienna cable states that the Emperor has recovered from Ms recent illness. Mise Ethel Grant leavefi to-day for a month's holiday at Thames, Auckland, ami- the hot lakes. A London cable states that Mr. John Redmond has been incapacitated for a fortnight through a carriage accident. Mr. G. A. Greenwood, manager of the Bank of New Sputh Waileß at Dannerirke, has been promoted to the management of the bank's branch at Ashburton. Miss G. 0. M, Oameron, M.Sc., who has been assistant at the Gore High school, has received the appointment of science mistress at the Methodist Ladies' College, Melbourne. The Rev. G. C. Blathwayt, vicar of the parish of Port has handed in his resignation to the Bishop's Commissary, having been appointed principal of the Maori College at Otaki. Dr. and Mrs. Salmond, of Dunedin, celebrated their golden, wedding on Christmas Day, having been married at Dunfermline on December 25th, 1801. The guests were limited to relatives, and they were sufficient to fill the house. There survive three sons and four daughters. There are sixteen grandchildren; and, besides, various members' of correlative, branches of the family. The veneraWi couple were the recipients of many tokens of love and gratitude, and of numerous congratulations of friends. Not the least appreciated was a cablegram from the congregation in North Shields, to which the professor ministered for seventeen years previous to his arrival in the Dominion, where he has resided for thirty-six years.
