DISTRICT NEWS.
HiUKFORD ROAD. (Prom Our Own Correspondent.) The breaking-up of the school for the Christmas holidays was celebrated on Friday night by distributing prizes to the children and a short concert and dance. Owing to Christmas Eve being on the next night it was not too well attended. Tho heavy rain on Christmas Eve caused a great many to be disappointed. Still, despite the wet, quite a number journeyed to town. Christmas morning broke no better, and judging by the appearance of the weather at time of writing it looks as though the Old Year is going to end wet. The continued wet weather is causing anxiety to the farmers on account of their harvest. Although most hay crops are later than usual, there are several waiting for fine weather so as to be harvested. Even though the dairy herds are not milking up to their usual standard this season, our local factory's output exceeds OOOIbs. butter per day—a record. People around our neighborhood would do well to keep their dogs on the chain, as several farmers have had their sheep and goats worried lately. One farmer lost well over a dozen sheep on one occasion. It is understood he intends, in future, to destroy all dogs found on the prowl and prosecute the owners. Mr. R. A. Wood, who left us to take up a farm in North Auckland, is spending a holiday here at present. In closing, I wish all A Bright and Happy New Year.
