CHARGE OF MANSLAUGHTER
MOTOR DRIVER ARRESTED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Friday. At the conclusion of the inquiry into the death of John Alexander McConnell, killed in a motor-car accident a few days ago, the jury returned a verdict finding that the driver of the motor, Rhodes Battye, had by negligent driving caused the death of deceased. At the conclusion of the inquest, Battye was arrested on a charge of manslaughter.
[The late Mr. McConnell was 30 years of age, and was employed as an accountant by Messrs. R. H. Abbott and Co., of Elliott street, Auckland. He leaves a wife and a family of young children. At one time he was a member of the Parncll Borough Council.]
