ATHLETICS
FESTIVAL OF EMPIRE TEAM. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Thursday. The New Zealand Festival of Empire committee last night entertained Mr. R. Coombes, who was their representative in London with the Australasian team. In the course of Ms reply to the welcome, Mr. Coombes said the team which went Home wns foredoomed to failure. Member? of the team reached London one by one, they were located in different parts of the city, consequently it was difficult to deal with them as a team, and the men were left to their own devices. When ever a team went Home again the members should go together, be in the same quarters when they got to England, and be bound to do as they were told* by the representative in charge of the team. The team was hall-marked with defeat before it left the shores of Australia and New Zealand.
