FIRE ON A STEAMER. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Sydney, December 28. lA fire on the Union Company's steamer Pareora, which was lying in the harbor, was extinguished by the crew. A quantity of timber and the lamp locker were damaged. A COACH CAPSIZES. Melbourne, December 28. A coach accident took place at Mt. Dandenong. A picnic party of fourteen were driving when the horses swerved off the road, and the waggonette was precipitated down the mountain side. All ~ the party were injured. One was eon- ; veyed to Melbourne badly crushed, but the others were in too serious a condiI tion to be moved. Particulars are I meagre.
A RESOLUTION RESCINDED. Sydney, December 28. The Broken Hill miners have rescinded a motion recently adopted that in the event of a member of the association being killed in any mine the whole of the members should cease work for one shift. LANDING STAGE CAPSIZED. Sydney, December 28. A pontoon supporting a landing platform capsized at Moruya, and thirty people were thrown into the river and rescued with difficulty. ANOTHER TRAGEDY. Sydney, December 28. Alice Norden shot Robert Lee in the forehead with a revolver in Alexandria Park last night. She afterwards committed suicide by drinking lysol. Lee's wound is not serious. The pair had been drinking together. SYDNEY GOVERNMENT HOUSE. Sydney, December 28. Mr. McGowen proposes to leave the Governor-General in possession of Government House, Sydney, and to- throw the grounds open to the public when his Excellency is not in residence.
