ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
BURNED TO DEATH. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, Thursday. Ellen Grimshaw, aged 37, the wife of a greaser at Belfast, Freeing Works, was burnt to death in a lire which destroyed their house at Belfast this morning. The wife was alone in the house at the time, the husband having left for work. Deceased only arrived from Lancashire a week ago to join her husband. There is no family. ATTACKED BY AN OCTOPUS. Wellington, Thursday. Whilst sitting on. a rock paddling her feet in the water at Island Bay yesterday a little girl was attacked by an octopus. Attracted by her cries." her father came and found that three tenacles were wound tightly round the girl's leg, and that she was being gradually drawn into the water. The father's strength proved unavailing to extricate the child, but with the assistance of three ladies the 'octopus was.beaten oil' and the girl rescued.
