CHILD FATALLY BURNED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Invercargill, Wednesday. Jeannie Duncan, aged 10, died in the hospital as the result of burns received on Christinas Day. While standing at the fireside her clothes caught, and she ran away enveloped in flames, which caused extensive injuries before they were extinguished. | ACCIDENTAL SHOOTING CASE. Hamilton, Wednesday. Wallace Pidsley, aged 17 years, while rabbiting at Rotorua, accidentally shot himself in the stomach, with fatal results. A BOY'S DEATH. Dunedin, Last Night. John Corlaw, aged six years, residing with his mother in Athol Place, was the victim of a fatal accident about 5 p.m. to-day. lie and two other boys were playing about two empty trucks in a coal yard, and Corlaw had his feet against one and his back against another, endeavoring to shift the Latter. The .truck was blown back by the force of the wind, and the lad's chest was badly crushed between the buffers. He ran home, but fell down immediately he arrived there, lie was removed 1 to the hospital, but died a few minutes later. SUDDEN DEATH. Dunedin, Last Night. A married woman named Rdofski, aged 35, died suddenly at Middlemarch last night. The cause of death is unknown. She had been in good health and was quite cheerful prior to her death. DROWNING- ACCIDENT. Auckland, Last Night. A young man named W. Andrews was drowned while crossing the Ongarue river, which was in flood, on Christmas Day, in a Maori canoe. There were three others in the canoe, who did ail they j could to save him, but without, avail. The deceased was employed on the railway construction works. The body has not been recovered. FOUND HANGING. Dunedin, Last Night. Lajos Deveschei, a Hungarian, employed by Mr. Bastian, of Wirth's circus, committed suicide this morning by hanging himself in the stables connected with the Farmers' Arms Hotel. He was seen about ten o'clock, when he seemed to be all right. At 11.45 Mr. Bastian found him hanging by the neck in a loose box. Deceased could not speak English. It is said he threatened to kill himself during the time the circus was at Invercargill. . , HAWERA RESIDENT INJURED. 1 Mr. David Knight, a well known Hawera resident, met with a rather serious accident yesterday morning. He rode his horse into the Hawera Railway Hotel yards shortly after seven o'clock, preparatory to catching the morning train for New Plymouth, The horse took fright at the whistle of a passing engine, with the result that the rider was thrown heavily to the ground. Dr. MacDiarmid was sent for, and, on arrival, he ordered Mr. Knight's removal to a private hospital. Mr. Knight is suffering from an injury to thei spine, but latest advices show that he is progressing satisfactorily.—Star.
