The Hull, Grangemouth and Liverpool shipping firms, arguing that the dockers' strike was now national, have withdrawn their proposed terms for a compromise. Tin; dockers replied that the decision would possibly lead to an international strike. Sir 0. R. Askwitli mediates in the trouble. HOW A DIFFICULTY AROSE. London, December 24. The non-unionism dilliculty arose in the Nelson-Oolne district owing to the Weavers' Union declining to recognise flhe separate trade union which the Catholics created in consequence of a secularist resolution adopted -by the Trades Union Congress. STRIKES SETTLED. ! London, December 24 The Newcastle carters' strike, has been settled on a basis of a shilling a week advance. The Dundee strike has also been settled. The canters' minimum wage has been advanced two shillings weekly. The dockers' wages have been increased by a halfpenny an 'hour. FREMANTLE COAL LUMPERS' STRIKE. Perth, December 24. I The coal lumpers' trouble at Fre-' mantle continues. The wharves are idle. SYDNEY TRAMWAYMEN. Sydney, December 24. The increase in the tramwaymen's wages represent an annual increase of £70,000. DUNDEE MILLS CLOSED. ■ .London, December 22. Thirty mills in Dundee are closed in the absence of coal supplies, and 30,000 hands are rendered idle. Tho police had to make a baton charge to-day. LOCK-OUT AT 'MANCHESTER. London, December 22. The cotton mill owners met at Manchester and declared a lock-out on Wednesday, affecting 100,000 hands. The mills will remain closed till the nonunionist question is settled.Many employers regret that the trade unions are forcing the situation, as trade is at the height of prosperity.
