The possibilities of Timor Island as a petroleum-producing country was mentioned by Mr A. .T.' Staughton. of Terang (Vic.), one of the directors of tlic Timor Petroleum Concessions, Limited. Mr Staughtoii visited the island with Mr 11. 0. Fovall, a geologist-, who was selected by Professor David. The surface and general indications 'of petroleum are such that lie is satisfied that there is an abundance of oil of a good quality. So far only shallow wells have been sunk, but the's-e hear out the other indications ol the presence of petroleum serviceable as fuel, which can be landed in Sydney, ho estimates, at a few shillings per ton.
