THE HOLIDAYS.

WHERE TO GO. Now that the weather appears to be settling to what one might expect for holiday-making, the thing to consider i» where to go. THE RACES arc already attracting visitors to New Plymouth, and sports may expect a good outing. The club has had improvements effected which will add to the comfort .and convenience of patrons, while the fields should supply ample racing excitement. CRICKET. Those who are fond of the good old game of cricket will liave the opportunity of witnessing a match in the Recreation Grounds between Wanganui and North Taranaki representatives. BOWLING. The bowlers expect to have a pleasant day on Tuesday, as the various clubs are making match arrangements. AXEMEN'S CARNIVAL. Eltham, as usual, is to the fore with a big programme of chopping and cycling events, and has been fortunate in agaiu getting the champions to compete. This carnival has become so widely and popularly known that visitors attend frpm all parts of the island, and the committee do their utmost to not only give the competitors every attention, but provide such conveniences for the public as to make them feel that ithey want to attend again. Every preparation has been made to handle a big crowd of people, and, given a fine day, the Eltluun committee should have a record meeting. PICNICS. An excursion to the Mountain House and a climb through the scoria and admiration of the majestic mount is one of the noted 'holiday tours. Boating parties and picnics in the country uto also among the list of enjoyable ways of spending a holiday. THE THEATRE. The Empire Pictures at the new theatre on Tuesday night will be the evening attraction. The extenaive accommodation is so good that patrons may rest ascsurcd of a comfortable seat, whilst an exlcecent programme will !>e presented. including the picture "ZigomnT," which has taken Wellington and other big centres by storm.
