Very fine entries are being received for the Grand Military Tournament on December 30 and January 1. There are already fourteen mounted teams entered from regiments ranging from Bluff to Whangarei, thirty-seven entries for swordsmanship events, and heavy entries for infantry events and route marching. The entries generally constitute a record. LOAN PROPOSALS CARRIED. Palmerston North, Last Night. Borough loans of £BOOO for various street and oilier works, and £4560 for sewerage extensions, were carried to-day by 11) and 52 votes respectively. SPORTS PROTECTION LEAGUE. Gisborne, Last Night. A well-attended meeting last evening decided to form a Gisborne centre of the Sports Protection League. J. W. Nolan, Crown Prosecutor, presided, and after the aims of the League had been outlined by the general secretary, A. Paape, J. W. Nolan was elected president of the local centre, and a strong committee was appointed. THEFT AND RECEIVING. Wellington, Last Night. In the Magistrate's Court to-day Isabella Harrington, alias Bain, was charged with the theft of £l2O from Geo. Barrett. In connection with the same of fence Henry Tlilditch was charged with receiving the sum of £97 Is !)d, the property of Ceo. Barrett, well knowing it to have been stolen. Each accused pleaded guilty, and they were committed to the Supreme Court.
