INCREASE IX AUSTRALIA. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright Sydney, December 21. Practically all the shipping companies bave decided to increase the inter-State freight rates 5 per cent., but not the passenger rates. Enquiries indicated that the arrangement hitherto existing between the companies is at an end. but it is not considered that a rate war is likely. The increase in freight is regarded as extremely moderate, considering the charges the companies have to meet. Melbourne, December 21. Although the shipping companies' arrangement have ended, it is believed •mioable relations still exist, and tickets will remain interchangeable.
