TEACHERS' SALARIES. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Wednesday. A new. and for the school teachers of Wellington Education District a more convenient, system of monthly payment of salaries is to .be adopted. Under the present arrangement teachers are paid by separate cheques sent from tli'o head office, Wellington, to the head teachers, who distribute them to the staffs. Under the new system each amount will be deposited monthly at the Bank of New Zealand. The bank will, arrange for the distribution of credits to its .branches. The head teachers will present cheques (supplied by the Government) to the staffs, who will present their own drafts to the 'banks and receive their due salaries. AN UNPOPULAR TRAMWAYS INSPECTOR. Wellington, Wednesday. The City Council had a discussion last night over a request by the Tramways Union to renjovc an inspector. The Appeal Board decided against this official, in a case which he bad brought against an employee by a majority of one. The council in committee decided to transfer the inspector to another position, on the ground of his want of tact. Farther discussion followed, and the resolution was upheld by the casting vote of the Mayor. Notice was immediately given to rescind the resolution. During the debate mention was made of threats by the union, which were dented, but it is also stated .that the union has held meetings on the subject, and if the council does not take action which satisfies them further meetings will fallow. CHARGE AGAINST EX-MERCHANT. Wellington, Wednesday. GranviMe Hunt, formerly in business here as an indent merchant, who has been wanted since July last year, and was arrested at Kihiicihi on Monday, was to-day charged with havung in July, 1910, forged the name of W. H. Nash to a promissory, note for £l5O 7s, and uttered the same to Wright, Stephenson and Co. He was remanded until the 27th, ibail of £l5O being allowed. SPORTS PROTECTION LEAGUE. Hastings, Wednesday. A meeting was held in Hastings yesterday aEternoon for the purpose of forming a branch of the New Zealand Sports Protection League. Sixty persons were present, representing all. branches of sport. It was decided to form a Hawke's Bay centre. There are 10,000 members of the league in Ilawke's Bay. The election of officers -resulted as follows: President, Mr. G. P. Donnelly; vice-presidents, Messrs. E. H. Williams, F. Logan, George Hunter. M.P., Frank Gordon, G. R. King, 11. M. Campbell, M.P., R. D. D. McLean, Leonard Storey, and W. 11. Hartgill. ALLEGED THEFT.' Wellington, Wednesday. To-day, Frederick William Green, formerly clerk and librarian of the Wellingthe Workingmen's Club and Literary Institute, was committed for trial on a charge of stealing £175 15s 9d from the funds of the club. Bail was allowed.
