Miiss A. E. Tlameiton, of Purangi, lias been appointed sole teacher at Korito school. ■ Mr. M. Irwin, of Awatuna, is a, patient at a private hospital for the purpose of undergoing an operation. Mr. Hermann Browne (formerly of Wanganui and Wellington) is l dangerously ill in the New Plymouth hospital.
Mr. E. P. Greatbatch has received notification that he has passed his final solicitor's examination. Mr. A. C. I/awrev secured a partial pass.
Fireman W. Sadler was decorated' with the association bar at Monday night's meeting of the Fire Brigade, having completed nine years' service. Mr. James Ewington, a well known resident of Masterton, passed away at the age of 77 years, early on Saturday morning, after being- invalided for 20 years.
The Rev. Metson and Mr. S>. Clark have been appointed members of the Stratford District High School, in place of Messrs. D. McMillan and P. McMahon (resigned). Dr. Coward, conductor of the Sheffield Choir, which recently made a tour of the Empire, was quietly married at Sheffield on November 4th to Miss J. A. Dewsnap. Mr. S. T. (Bruce) .Toll, eldest son of Mr. H. T. Joll, was married a.t New Plymouth yesterday morning to Miss Gladys Bosijawcn, daughter of Captain Boscawen, Mt. Eden, Auckland. They left on a short honeymoon trip by the afternoon train. Messrs. F. Hartnell aijd H. Arnold, who were respectively color-sergeant and sergeant of the old Taranaki Guards, have been promoted to the rank of lieutenant under the new defence scheme. Their appointments to B. Company have been gazetted.
Sir William mid Lady Russell, who are returning to New Zealand after a trip to England, are passengers to Auckland by the P. and 0. Company's Mooltan, which left Sydney 011 Monday afternoon, and is due at the northern port on Friday. Mr. G. A. Adlam met with an accident when returning from the Education Board meeting last month. As a result he was confined to his ibed during most of the month, but had recovered sufficiently to attend tile meeting of the Board on Tuesday night.
■Mr. Sharp, Government Inspector of died at Napier yesterday morning after a few months" illness. The deceased came out to Wellington from Glasgow about fourteen years ago .by the ferry steamer Duchess as chief engineer, lie leaves a widow and family.
