'» By Telegraph—Press Association. f Dunedin, Last Night. I The first wool sale of the season was held to-day, when 5067 bales were offered. There was an exceptionally larg* • number of buyers from all th« chief manufacturing countries of the world, and the sale went with a swing from start to finish, very few lots being pass- | ed in. One very noticeable feature wag the American competition, especially for lots of bright Romney or super crossbred wools. The wool from the ma- ] jority of the districts was in decidedly better condition than was the case last '. year, being lighter in grease, stronger ; in staple and better grown. The following prices were realised, the prices for last year being given in parenthesis:— ■ Super merino to 13d (11<1 to 12y 3 d); 1 medium to good, 9to 10y 4 d (9d to 10d); . inferior, 7<H to Sd (7d to i&J); super halfbreds, 12d (12d to 13d); medium to good, 9V s d to 10y 2 d (9y 2 d to lid); inferior, I 7d to By z d (7y 2 d to 9d); super crose--1 bred, lOd to liy 4 d (lOd to lid'); medium to good, 8d to 9%d (B%d to 9%d); | inferior, 6%d to 7%d (6y,d to 8d); 8 1 super pieces, 9%d to lid.
