J. Heatley, do., £4 10s; F. J. Heatley, teachers' classes, New Plymouth, £2 ss; Mrs. Fama, dressmaking, Opunake, £5; Miss Dempsey, dressmaking, New Plymouth and Tariki, £l2; Md. In 'addition he recommended that a 1 bonus of £2O be paid to Mr. Tyorer, superintendent of the Stratford classes, a bonus of £lO to Mr. Sullivan, superintendent at New Plymouth, and a bonus of £lO to Mr. Fred. Bowler in connection with the instruction of the rural classes at Stratford. He considered that Miss McDonald and | Mr. Samdford, instructors in cookery and j woodwork respectively, were deserving of higher remuneration for their services, | and advised that from January 1, 1912, Miss. McDonald's salary be raised 'to j £l2O, and Mr. Sandiford's to £lB5 per annum. ] The report was adopted, and the sug-! gestions agreed to on the motion of Messrs. Adlam and Haleombe. Mr. F. J. Heatley submitted the following report on technical organisation: ■ Since last meeting Chief Inspector Brown visited New Plymouth, and in conversing on technical matters the possibility of day classes in commercial, domestic and industrial subjects was mentioned. Mr. Heatley appended a circular to be sent out to schools in order that the Board might know what support would be forthcoming. A full report on the agricultural classes and on. technical matters would be submitted through the director at the January meeting of the Board. —Adopted. CHAIRMAN'S REPORT. The chairman reported on the following matters that have been attended to since the last meeting of the Board:— Oeo.—The survey of the site having been completed and the signatures of the natives interested in the block having been obtained, application had been made ifor a grant for the school and residence. Pukearuhe.—The site for this school having been surveyed and all necessary forms having been completed, application has been made for a grant for the school and residence. Warea.—An application has been made ] to the Department for a grant for the I improvement of the residence.

Stratford.—The foundation stone- of the new building was laid by Sir Joseph Ward on Monday, November 27. The Stratford School Committee made the arrangements, which were vary complete. Inglcwood.—As Mr. W. W. Thomas declined to take up the appointment of assistant at this school he had decided that it would be better to invite fresh applications for the vacancy.—The report was adopted. RADNOR ROAD. The chairman reported' that on November 27 he met at Stratford a deputation from the Radnor road settlers in reference to their request for the establishment of a school on the road. It seemed to him that this was a case in which the children ought to be conveyed to the Midhirst School, but the sum allowed by the Department, which would amount to 6s 6d per day, was quite inadequate when it was considered that some of the children would have to be taken five miles, making for the double journey, morning and evening, a twenty miles drive. A few of the children now went across the paddocks to Pembroke. The nearest school was Denbigh, which could be easily reached if Derby road was opened. Proposals for opening it had been made several times, but so far had failed owing to want of unanimity, and .also (because the Government would not grant a subsidy; nevertheless the settlers he met were confident that the road would eventually be opened. They discussed the erection of footbridges across the Piahau and Te Popo streams, but it was considered that even with these the road itself would be too wet lor small children, except in very fine weather. Under these circumstances he recommended that a temporary school should be opened in a large room in Mr. John Vickert house, at a rental of 5s per week. This school would be closed when the Derby road was opened. Mr. Kennedy suggestad that they should apply to the Board for a grant 'for this school, as they had tried all they could to get the road opeend up. Mr. Ballantyne (inspector) suggested that a, further attempt should be made to get the Department to make a track. He understood that a six-foot track, with a ditch each side, high and dry, including necessary bridges could be made for £7O. The system of forming.such tracks from one road to another would obviate the necessity for so many small schools, and in a larger school under more competent teachers the children would receive better educational facilities. He considered some member of the Board should interview flic Department on the matter. Members were of opinion that the suggestion was worthy of consideration. It was resolved, on the motion of Messrs. Kennedy and Halcombe, that the report be received and adopted, and tliat application be made to the Department l for recognition of the school. '
