The first local option in respect of the Maori race was held to-day in the Takitima Maori Council district in common with similar polls in Horouta (Waiapu), Arawa (Rotorua), and Northern Wairoa Maori Council districts. The poll was taken for the purpose of deciding whether liquor shall or shall not be snipplied to Maoris of the districts mentioned. The question was: Shall liquor be supplied to the Maoris? The poll resulted: Takitama.— Yes, ofi2; No. 2.12. Horouta.—Yes. 38G; No, 530. Arawa.—Yes, 443 j No, 131.
