Missionaries report the assassination of Tuanfang, Acting-Viceroy of Szechuan. Discovering his army was disloyal, Tuanfang attempted to flee, but the soldiers canght and hacked him and his brother to pieces with swords. It is reported that the province of Chengtu has revolted. The peace conference has opened at Shanghai. It is believed the Republicans have submitted proposals for the abolition of the Manchu Dynasty and the creation of a republic, and have also offered to pension the Court and Imperial Princes, as well as extending generous treatment to the other Manchus. The conference, before proceeding, requested Yuan-Shai-Kai and Li-Yuan-Hang to insist on a stringent armistice, as the conditions in the interim are becoming worse. Industries are at a standstill, and millions starving owing to the floods in Northern Siangsu and Anbwukiang. The Imperialists have sent train loads of ammunition to Shantung boundary, where the fifth division is moving southward, junctioning with General Chan L Smog's forces at Asuchen, in Northern Kiangau, where they are preparing for a big battle. Wu-Ting-Fang has telegraphed to Pe-| kin urging the diplomats to proceed to Tientsin, thus freeing the ground for the Anal drama.
