Referirng to the recent inter-State match, the Referee says that Trumper's defence was so sound, his scoring shots on the cut, the drive, the glance, and the forcing shots to the oil, so clean and sure, that it may be questioned whether biii form was ever better. He has been more electric and daring, but never sounder. Warren Bardsley's defence, like Trumper's, was perfect, but in forcing shots once or twice he appeared to trust, the wicket more than his comrade. But his form, like that of Trumper, was excellent, and it is good to feel this in the light of the test matches to be played this season.

C. Kel.leway, who made his first appearance in this season's first-class cricket at Brisbane against the English team, when he scored G7 runs and took no wickets for fi and two for 52, has shown excellent all-round form for his club. To judge by the slip-catching seen in Sydney this season (remarks tho Referee] off the bowlers of pace, Ke-lleway's fielding in the slips will be required as miuch as his batting and bowling in the test matches.

Macartney's form is good (says an Australian paper), but he is not "getting them" just now, probably because he is trying forcing-shots too soon after going to the wickets, without getting to know quite what the bowlers are ding. He seems t-o have run into a succession of those small scores which dogged him last season, though he has had the advantage of starting with a century in inter-State cricket this season.

Tim Board of Control will meet at Melbourne on the 2flth inst., when arrangements for the visit of the Australian team to England will be made. The selection committee will be appointed, thy number of players decided, and other matters of similar importance attended to.

The matter of putting a curb on barracking at Sydney's big matches has been considered, and the matter left in the hands of officials. As a result, during the Xew South Wales-South Australia match, a spectator was removed from the terrace by the police. Otago will make an onslaught on Canterbury for the Plunket Shield on Christmas Day. The Canterbury men have gone into practice, anl the team will be selected from the following:—J. Bennett, W. R. Patrick, W. Hayes, H. Watsou, H. B. Lusk, D. Bcese, C. Box-shall, W. Carlton, T. Carlton, A. Sims, D. Sandman, K. M. OHivier, S. A. Orchard, Alf. Xorman, E. 1!. Caygill, A. Thomas and E. Crawshaw.
