Mr. O'Brien (Cork) declared that the Manhood Suffrage Bill will prove a serious obstacle to Home Rule. The extension of the franchise meant reference to the country, when the Liberals would be smashed, owing to the unpopularity of the Insurance Bill. THE LABOR PARTY. London, December 17. Mr. MacDomild, speaking at Swansea, denied the ' rumors of a split in the Labor Party. He hoped the time would never come when the party would' coerce the conscientious minority into the same division lobby. CONSULS AND TRADE OPENINGS. London, December 17. Replying to a question by Mr. Archer Shee as to whether consuls were instructed to report on trade openings for the dominions as well as the Motherland, Mr. Acland said they were instructed to inform Britain of developments affecting the dominions as exporters of foodstuffs. FRIENDLY SOCIETIES AND INSURANCE. London. December 17. The Grand Master of the Manchester United of Oddfellows said that if it became an approved society under the In surance Bill, he believed the result would be a prosperous future. The chairman of the National Deposit Society said that, while preferring to be left unfettered by the Insurance Bill, it was as good as could be expected under the circumstances.
