A LABOR FABLE.
To the Editor. Sir,—Once upon a time in the political history of New Zealand a certain number of discontented Labor leaders mutinied aboard the good ship "Onward" when she was being boldly guided by Admiral Dreadnought Ward through the stormypolitical waters of New Zealand. They launched the cutter "Socialism" and sailed away until they discovered what they called an island, and gave it the name of tho ''lsland of Spite." and said, "Let in annex this on behalf of the 'Diffkaform Party' for our own greedy ends." They landed on the island, and after .having hoisted the red flag, they did try to light a fire and make merry, but that which they called the "Island of Spite" proved to be a 'iMassey whale" (wail), which of a sudden dived to the bottom of tho Sea of the Second Ballot, whercb? the mutinous socialistic crew were all drowned in the ocean of lies below the Sea of the Second Ballot. Admiral Dreadnought Ward, when he heard of their fate, said, "J am well rid of the ungrateful rascals." Then there was a reign of peace for three years, until the staunch "Onward" met the redoubtable "Liquor Craft" and "State Control." This will be duly chronicled again.—l am, etc., * A. E. SOPPE.
