SEVERE EARTHQUAKE.
IN THE CHEVIOT DISTRICT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Chrisitchurch, Thursday. A heavy shock of earthquake was felt at Cheviot shortly after midnight. The report to hand says that riot a chimney was left standing at McKenzie, and considerable damage was done to crockery. Christchurch, Later. Later reports of the Cheviot earthquake show that the damage was confined mainly to houses on flat land, and was not nearly so serious as first supposed.
