MR. LAURENSON AT HASTINGS.

Mr. Lanreiison's meeting last night passed off quietly till the conclusion of the address, when a motion of thanks and confidence in the Government was moved and seconded. An amendment that the meeting thanks Mr. Laurenson but expresses the opinion that Mr. iSimson is not a suitable candidate for Hawke's Bay was received with hoots and cheers. Another speaker could not obtain a hearing, and the amendment lapsed for want of a seconder. The original motion was carried, and the meeting terminated with cheers for Messrs. Laurenson and Simson, and counter cheers for Mr. Campbell (the Opposition candidate).

At a large meeting of Hillside employees and members of the A.S.R.S., held at noon, a resolution was carried with a single dissentient, heartily approving of the attitude taken up by Mr. Mack in the second ballot at Parnell, and unreservedly endorsing the opinion expressed in his open letter to his late supporters, and earnestly commending his advice to the elector* of Duned'r! At a special meeting of the Dunedin Union to-night, a motion was carried by 25 votes to 17, repudiating the action of the president (Mr. Perry) in supporting the candidature of Mr. Bedford for Dunedin West without the authority of the union, and asking him to resign forthwith. It was decided by 24 votes to 16 to support the candidature of Mr. Millar. THE INVERCARGILL SEAT. Invercargill, Last Night. A big meeting was held by the Reform Party to-night in support of Mr. Fleming's candidature. Several speakers supported the cause of the Reform candidate at,the second ballot, and a vote of thanks and confidence was carried. PARNELL CONTEST. THAT LABOR MANIFESTO. Auckland, December 12. Sir John Findlay, in a speech last night, denounced the manifesto purporting to lie issued by the Auckland branch of the New Zealand Labor Party. He denied absolutely the charges that'he had advocated "speeding up"; he had striven to secure a living wage for the workers, nnd, in addition, as much as the workers deserved. Sir John Findlay said his remarks had been distorted with reference to the use of the Riot Act, which remarks only referred to the use of the Act where public safety was in danger. Mr. W. Rosser, who stated he had been an Oppositionist at the beginning of the contest, and Mr. Mack, the defeated Parnell candidate, denounced the manifesto, the latter stating that the manfesto was not receiving the sanction of the executive of the Labor Party in Wellington.
