ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
GORED TO DEATH. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington. Yesterday. Nicholas Lopez, aged 45, a dairyman, was gored to death I*,- a bull on bis farm at Melrose last night. He went into a paddock at seven o'clock, and some time later his dead body was found badly mutilated. The bull was known to be a dangerous animal. ' ATTEMPTED SUICIDE. Wellington, Last Night. This morning, A. S. Bcllerby, a sheep farmer from Gisborne, was found in the bathroom at the Grand Hotel with his throat cut and a razor lying in the water beside him. A doctor was sent for and ordered his removal to the hospital. He had .been staying at the Grand Hotel since Sunday, and the manager could not see any signs that he had been drinking. QUARRY ACCIDENT. A very serious accident occurred at Mr. 11. Shaw'* quarry at Omoana on Tuesday. _ While two men (A. Miller and M. Manning) were engaged drilling papa rock, a piece of rock fell from the facing above where they were at work, and struck Manning "on the back, almost crushing him. He was seriously injured externally and internally. The ambulance van was at once'telephoned for, and proceeded to Omoana without delay, returning with the unfortunate sufferer to Dr. Harrison's private hospital, where his injuries were attended to. From inquiries at the hospital on Wednesday morning it appears that Manning passed a. fairly good night, but his condition is still critical.—Hawera Star.
