THE NOBEL PRIZES.
PRESENTATION* AT STOCKHOLM. By Oable—Press Association—Copyright. Stockholm, December 11. Madame Curie (chemistry), Professor Wein (physics) and Professor Gullstrand (medicine) received the Nobel prizes. Maeterlinck (literature) was ill, and not present. T. Asser, members of the Dutch Ministry, and A. Friend, editor of a Vienna paper, shared the peace prize. The Nobel Foundation is based upon the will of Dr. Alfred Nobel, the Swedish engineer and chemist, and inventor of dynamite, who died in 18!)0, and left part of his great fortune to form a fund, the interest on which was to provide prizes to ,be awarded annually to those persons who had conferred the greatest benefits on mankind during the preceding year. There are five prizes, each worth about £BOOO. Among the recipients have been Mr. Marconi and Professor Rutherford (physics), and Mr. Roosevelt (peace).
