THE RAILWAY SERVICE.
INCREASED PAY. The head office of the Railway Department in Wellington recently issued the following circular to district officers:— It will be observed that the minimum pay for guardsmen, signal, storemen, and shunters in grade 1, and the minimum and maximum pay for grade 2 have been increased. Members in grade 1 in receipt of less than minimum provided by new Act will receive 10s fid per day, and members at 10s Od per day prior to November 1 will receive lis per day from November 1, ,1011. Members of grade 2 at 8s fid per day prior to November 1 will receive fls Gd, and those at 9s will receive 10s per day from November 1, 1911. The pay of crane drivers also has been increased. Crane drivers in receipt of 9s and 9s fid prior to November 1 will receive 9s 6d and 10s respectively, and those at 8s 6d prior to November 1 will receive 9s per day from November 1, 1911. Nightwatchmen will receive 4Ss per week from 'November 1. Pay-sheets for arrears up to November 11 have been to stationmasters for payment. Any member who receives an increase on November 1, 1011, will not be entitled to receive another increase until November 1, 1912. Members who are married or widowers with children dependent upon them and who are at pTesent in receipt of marriage allowance, will have the allowance increased to £133 in the case of division 1, and 8s Od per diem in the case of members of division 2 as from November 1, 1011. Special pay-sheets for arrears in marriage allowance from November 1 to 11 inclusive must be rendered at once, and members entitled to the marriage allowance must be entered at the increased rates (i.e., £133 per annum, or 8s <Sd per day), on pay-sheets for period ending December 9.
