An apparatus which is designed to act as an auxiliary for all sea-going vessels has recently been invented by Captain Powers, of Vancouver. It consists of a pipe running from one end of the vessel to the other, and having cogs at either' end. At a certain point of this pipe there is a screw wheel that works' on the same system as a propeller. The shaft of this propeller is connected by 'means of cog wheels with another shaft, on the end of which is a brush which develops electric power by its action on a dynamo. When the vessel moves forward the rush of water through the pipe turns the screw, which in its turn revolves a shaft which develops electric power enough to light the vessel and perform any other office that needs power. Its inventor claims that the dynamo would develop imore horse-power than the engines of the I vessel itself. OVERSEA VESSELS. ! STEAMERS TO ARREVJ3 AT WELLINGTON.
