The object of his mission to Australia is to promote the federation of the seamen's associations of the Commonwealth with British associations. WHEAT CROPS DAMAGED. Sydney, December 6. Owing to the extremely heavy rain in the western wheat district, wheat shippers have, withdrawn quotations until an estimate of the damage is obtained. LORD MAYOR'S SALARY. Sydney, December 6. The Lord Mayor's salary has been increased from £IOOO to £ISOO per annum. A PROSPEROU SYEAR. Sydney, December 6. The Director of Labor, referring to the favorable conditions prevailing in the State, says that the present year is the best for a decade. Prices of primary products throughout the year ruled high. The city of Sydney is extending and thriving marvellously. EXACTING LANDLORDS. Sydney, December 0. At the enquiry into increased rents, a witness said that the Irish landlords were saints compared with Sydney landlords. He knew small places where the rents had been doubled and the tenants compelled to submit, because it was impossible to do better elsewhere. VICTORIAN WHEAT CROP. Melbourne, December 6. The Government Statistician's preharvest wheat estimate is 20,571,000 bushels, an average of 11.45 bushels per acre. The area estimated to be harvested is 77,089 acres be-low that of last year. The requirements of the State for food and seed are estimated at 9,000,000 bushels, leaving an exportable surplus of 17,500,000 bushels. THE MOUNT MORGAN MINE. Brisbane, December 6. The Mount Morgan copper reduction worki for November produced 622 tons blister copper containing: Copper Cl 6 tons, gold 4095 ounces. The gold reductions works produced 7104 ounces, The total value of the products was £8450. AERIAL DEFENCE. Sydney, December 6. The Aerial League has affirmed the necessity of the immediate establishment of a system of aerial defence in Australia. A WESTRALIAN LOAN. Perth, December 0. The Government is issuing in Australia a £500,000 4 per cent, loan at par. KAURI TIMBER COMPANY. Melbourne, December 0. The Kauri Timber Company's gross profits for the year ended August 31 were £!>o,72<i. Of this sum £5222 is transferred from the profit and loss account to the contingency account, £2OOO to the log residue account, £1322 to the marine insurance fund, and £(1087 paid on shares held by the company in other concerns. The net earnings were £40,758. A dividend of 8 per cent, for the year alworixs £40,800, and £23,171) is carried forvvaru.
