It adds: "Boxing contests, conducted to a knock-out on gentlemanly lines are not a draw. A more gladiatorial spectacle is more likely to draw. We are not among those who try to force refined morality by legislation, but the limit is reached when so-called sport becomes a foul ulcer of infection to any unable to protect themselves." STATE LOTTERY PROPOSED. Received 0, 1 a.m. Sydney. December 5. In the Assembly Mr. Osborne moved to introduce a Bill to provide a State lottery similar to Tattcrsall's. The debate was adjourned. FEDERAL PARLIAMENT OPENED BY COMMISSION. Received C. 1 a.m. Melbourne. December ">. Parliament was opened by commission. The Speech from the Throne was short. and said Parliament was called together to makt provision for services for the year, to deal with the Public Works Loan Application Bill and measures for authorising the construction of important railway linos.
