ASSAULT AT GISBORNE.
MAN SERIOUSLY HURT. ! By Telegraph—Press Association. Gisborne, Last Night. A serious altercation took place in a boarding-house here on Saturday evening between two men, laborers, named Thos. Fitzgerald and. Wm. Brown. The two were disputing oyer money matters, and were advised to settle the dispute on the lawn in front of the house. Fitzgerald declined to fight, and went upstairs, being followed by Brown. Some time later a disturbance was heard and the inmates rushed to Fitzgerald's room. It is alleged that Brown forced Fitzgerald oil to the bed and badly treated him. Fitzgerald was found in a semi-conscious condition, and a doctor was called in. He ordered his removal to the hospital. He is suffering from an injury to his spine, and yesterday remained in a semi-con-scions condition, but 9howed some slight improvement this evening! Brown was arrested and charged with assault at the Police Court this morning, and remanded until next week.
