An Invercargill wire states that Lady and Miss Eileen Ward went by the afternoon train yesterday to Winton, where they were met by the ladies of the district, and entertained at a banquet. About a hundred ladies were present, and the hall was tastefully decorated. Mrs. Meßrown presided. After dinner Mrs. McWilliam read an address of welcome. Lady Ward, who was greeted with loud applause, suitably replied. The band had played the National Anthem as the party entered the hall. Much enthusiasm was displayed. A London cablegram reports the death of the Ma,rquis of Waterford, whose body was fountj in the river Clodagh, near his residence! at Curraghmore, Co. Waterford. Apparently his death was the result of an accident. The Marquis, who belonged to the old Irish family of De la Poer Beresfords, was 3G years of age. He married' the youngest daughter of Lord Lansdowne, and is succeeded by his eldest son, the Earl of Tyrone, who is 11 years of age. The verdict at the inquest on the Marquis of Waterford was: "Found drowned in the river Clodagh." His death was accidental. It is believed he fell into the swollen river on a foggy night.
