SATURDAY COMPETITIONS. | The first round of the Saturday competitions was concluded on Saturday. At the Recreation Sports Ground United ie Service inflicted a decisive defeat on n New Plymouth by an innings and 30 7 runs. Law defeated Inglewood at Ingle- j s > woodi by 164 to ST. e, 7 UNITED SERVICE v. NEW PLYi- MOUTH. e > New Plymouth batted first, but could make no stand against the .bowling of a i Bain and l Dinniss, the former being par-1 ticularly deadly, securing seven wickets r " for eight runs. The first four wickets ih were down for three, Williams, Weston, i) Arden and Goddard all failing to score. Nit-oil (10) and' Monk (8) were the only 73 ones to make a stand, aind : the innings g> olosed for 38 runs. Service passed this -} total for the loss of three wickets, Mac-s-l kay, Bain and Osborne falling cheaply, i ■!
