CYCLONE AND CLOUDBURST. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Sydney, December 2. In a cyclone at Flemington, near Sydney, houses were demolished, roofs wrenched off, fences flattened, and trees uprooted. It culminated in a cloudburst and rain poured down in sheets and flooded the district in a few minutes. There were many narrow escapes and the damage done was at least £IOOO worth. FEDERAL REVENUES. . Melbourne, December 2. The. falling-off in postal revenue for the first five months of the financial year exceeded the estimate by £20,000. The Customs revenue is over £500,000 in excess of last year. INCREASED FREIGHTS. Melbourne, December 2. The secretary of the Steamship Owners' Federation dpclares that the seamen's award will cost the companies £IOO,OOO annually and will probaibly result in increased freights. AUSTRALIAN TELEPHONES. Melbourne, December 2. In view of the unfavorable reports of the telephone expert, the Government is sending three leading officials to England and America to investigate up-to-date methods.
