AN APPEAL TO THE ELECTORS By the Ministers of Taranaki. T<HE opportunity and the responsibility of exercising the franchise under the Licensing Act, ia to be yours once again in a fexv days. We appeal to ; on to vote this time to put an end to the evils caused by drinking in your own district and throughout New Zealand. For the first time, a vote is to be taken on the question of National Prohibition. The experience of No-License in twelve districts has satisfied us that it will be wise to extend its beneficent effects to every district in the Dominion, and that National Prohibition will prove an inestimable boon to all. A Parliamentary return last year showed that the consumption of liquor in NoLicense districts is not more than one-sixth of that in License areas, while the Police Court returns show a very large decrease in criminal cases NoLicense communities. These districts enjoy steady and increasing prosperity, and are practically free from the evils caused by drink. In the parts of the Dominion where licenses continue, drunkenness is increasing, with its inevitable results. New Zealand is entirely separated from all other countries by great distances, and is therefore most favorably situated for making National Prohibition effective. If this would mean some self-denial to you, then we ask you, for the common good, to make that sacrifice. In addition to the papers for the Parliamentary Election, two papers will be given to you in the polling booth. We respectfully urge you to use your full power at the coming poll, and to vote Local No-license and Dominion Prohibition by striking out the TOP LINE ON BOTH PAPERS. (Signed) REV. R.
