SENIOR COMPETITION. The matches were continued yesterday under almost wintry conditions, ploy having to he adjourned once or twice owing to showers. The Carrington lloadW'aitara match provod indecisive, though Carrington Road ha/vis 1 much the best of it, scoring 129, thanks chiefly to a vigorous 62 by Gwillim, against Waitora's 04 for seven wickets. The match will be continued later. At Inglewood the local team went under to Urenui by three wickets and 31 runs.

C'ARRIXGTON ROAD v. WAITARA. Perham and McEwien opened for Carrington Road against the bowling of Lash and Puirdie. Huns came slowly at the start, Purd'ie's first four overs only producing one run, the fielding being very good 1 . Thirteen were on the board when McEwicn fell to Purdie, well caught by Harrison. Simpson followed, but a few runs later Perham, wlvo -was shaping nicely, was caught by Lash off Purdie. G will bn, who followed, had a let ofT by the wicketkeeper, who should have j stumped him before he scored. He showed, his gratitude by hitting Purdie for three and six the same over, arid brought 30 up. Hawkins replaced Lash, and at 45 clean bowled Simpson foe 10. Smith followed, and Oudby relieved Purdie. Gwillim signalised his approval by hitting him three times in succession to the boundary. I&rshaw at once replaced' him. Smith survived an appeal for Lb.w., but the first ball of Kershaw's seoondi over removed his bails. Gwillim was batting well, treating anything loose with contempt, hitting several boundaries and a fine lift for six, whilst Avery played steadily, and 116 went up before the latter was .bowled by Eggleston. G'willim had to retire for a while owing to a ball from Efegleston hitting him in the-face. Elliot did not stay long, and Gwillim returned to the crease, 'but only added 1 an additional fourer when Eggleston bowled him. He received great applause for his 62, which included three sixers and sax fourers. Caa-ring-ton Road only .batted nine men, and the innings closed for 124).

Harrison and Hawkins faced the bowling of Smith and' Simpson. At five Harrison was out oil a full-pitched ball, which struck him on the hand and rolled on to the wicket. Lash fell to Smith without scoring. Hawkins and Eggleston played carefully, although the latter got in some nice cuts to tiki boundary, and the score reached 32 before Hawkins fell to Smith, who Mas bowling a nice break. Kersliaw joined Eggleston, and runs kept piling up, but at 44 Smith, beat Eggleston with a leg break for 10. Dowsett followed and promptly hit Smith twice to the boundary, bringing 50 up, then CO, and Waitara's chances looked good. At 44 Gwillim had relieved Simpson, awl was bowling well. At 61 Dowsett tipped one from Smith on to his wickets, but his luck was in as the bails remained on. Next over Gwillim got Kershaw, who had scored 12, and Purdie with successive balls, and in the last over Smith got Cudby, the 6core at drawing stumps being seven for 04. Smith took five wickets for 32, and Ciwillim, two for 5. Scores:— CAItRINGTON ROAD.
