A Sydney cable states that Canon Long has been consecrated Bishop of Bathurst. Mr. W. Perry returned to New Plymouth by the Barawa yesterday morning from his trip to the Old Country. Mr. Henry Denliard, founder of one of the largest bakery businesses in Wellington, dded at Ms residence, Hafcaitai, on Wednesday, aged 70 years, 'An Ottawa cable says that it is understood that Mr. A. Balfour, late Header of the Unionist Party in the House of Commons, next year visits Canada, where he is largely interested in read estate. Mr. C. Carter, chairman of directors of the Tananaki Petroleum Co., accompanied by Mr. J. Brown (chairman of directors of the British Empire Oilfields) and Mms. Brown, returned to New Plymouth from England last night. Mrs. Carter remains in England, until January 18th, wlten she will leave on her return journey to New Zealand. Mr. R. L. M. Kitto, of the Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., who has been promoted from the managership of the Hawera to the Napier branch, was presented 1 by the Hawera Golf Club with a travelling bug' and case , 0 { pip es . 1 1 . W. Carey, his successor, was prior to his departure from Masterton, presented by a number of clients of the Ann with a gold watch and silver inkstand. Yesterday the commercial travellers of Taranaki met together and presented Mr. J. D. Thomson, on his departure from New Plymouth with a handsome albert. Messrs.
