BOXING
GLOVE FIGHTS IN TOWN HALL. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. In May last the City Council granted permission to the Wellington Boxing Association to hold professional boxing contests in the Town Hall, and, in accordance with notice given, Councillor A. R. Atkinson moved at to-night's meeting of the Council to roscind the motion. He objected to professionalism in sport. The Mavor contended that the Town Hall was the proper place for such contests, if they were to be held. Or. Atkinson's motion, after a short discussion, was defeated by 8 to 6. CARNIVAL AT GISBORNE. Gisborne, Last Night. The fourth boxing carnival opened tonight. In the heavy-weight contest, Civ Low (11.10) beat A. Watson (11.6). Bert Lowe ("11.3) beat A. J. Martin (12.1). It was a splendid fight of four rounds. In the latter event there was much dissent against the referee's decision. The final is to be fought to-morrow.
