Mr. Champ Clark denies that he ever really favored the annexation of Canada, lie would be the first to vote against such a project if Canada were o!i'ered to the United States. It was the most preposterous canard ever put in type since Gutenberg invented printing. Ile had frequently expressed the hope that the two countries would unite by mutual agreement, but he never for a moment thought of forcible annexation.
