PRESS COMMENT. By Oable—Press Association—Copyright. Sydney,, November 25. The Herald states that England gave a disappointing display of over-cautious, batting, which the spectators did not appreciate. The Telegraph says that the weather suggested that a sound policy would hare been to make runs, even at the cost of wiclcets. Instead of this England made Macartney look a champion bowler. The wixsket was unsuited to his style, but it is the style of the Englishmen to go slow. Spectators will have to g,rin and bear it or stay away. When we want to say nice things about a slow batsman we say he is solid. The visitors are the solidcst combination yet seen in Australia.
It rained' lightly throughout the night and is still drizzling. The prospects o£ play are not promising. The match is limited to four days. The Englishmen will'play a team of colts on December 21 and 22, instead of the Maitland match.
Warner's illness is more serious than at first thought. He is suffering from a duodenal ulcer, and though not of a dangerous nature the doctors say it will be impossible for him to play in the first test match commencing on December 15. Yesterday Warner was admitted to a private hospital.
