UNIVERSAL HALF-HOLIDAY FOR TARANAKI.
To the Editor. Sir, —I beg leave to place before your readers through your correspondence column the action of my chamber with regard to the above question. We believe that there is a strong feeling in favor of a universal half-holiday for Tairanaki, and we have decided to invite the Mayors of boroughs and chairmen of town boards or delegates of same to a oomferen<ee to be held at Stratford on Friday, December 15, at 3 p.m., with a view to the mutual establishment of such. The days for discussion will b? confined to Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday. We anticipate that there will not be any diversity of opinion as to the desirability of a universal half-holiday, but the difficulty will 110 doubt occur in the choosing of the most suitable day. The Stratford business people have been asked for their opinion, and while a large number have favored Thursday the majority are at present supporting Saturday. Waitara also supports Saturday, and unofficial information from New Plymouth and Patea suggests a similar course. Thus it appears that Saturday will receive strong support. I trust those interested will acquaint the local governing body with the views of the majority in order that delegates to the conference may be posseted of the information necessary to guide them. Thanking you "111 anticipation.—l am, etc., J. B. 151 GUARDS, Hon. secreta rv Stratford Chamber of Commerce.
