DISTRICT NEWS

WAREA. (From Our Own Correspondents). A meeting of the Glenferrie Tennis Club was held in tlie hall on Saturday night. A large number was present, Mr. W. Taylor being jn the chair. Mr. K. F. Andrews was elected secretary. The committee who visited the grounds to inspect them reported favorably, and it was decided to use the grounds the committee had selected. It was decided to obtain four racquets for the use of the club. The subscription was fixed at 7s Gd for gentlemen and as for ladies. The following management committee was elected:—Mesdames Taylor, Barak, Misses K. Corbett, T. Murphy, Messrs W. Revel], A. E. Sadler, J. Robinson, C. W. Revell and J. Murcatt. The first working bee will l>e held on Wednesday to fix up the grounds, etc. Officers were elected as Mr. W. Revell; vice-president, Mr. W. Taylor; secretary and treasurer, Mr. K. F. Andrews. A hearty vote cf thanks was passed to Mr. W. Revell for the use of the grounds, and the club appointed him a life member of the club. '

A dance will be held on the 29th inst. in aid of the Glenferre Tennis Club's funds.

The annual meeting of the Warea Public Library will be held in the library room to-night (Saturday).

MIDHIRST. On Tuesday evening a good number of people turned up at the hall to hear Mr. Hine. Mr. A. Brown was voted to the chair. On rising ,Mr. Hine was greeted -with applause, and he spoke for an hour and a-linlf, his speech being the usual criticism of the Government. His remarks were Imsely appreciated by the Conservative part of the audience, and their applause was frequent. On resuming his seat, he was again applauded. Questions were then invited, and tliev came, hot and strong. One or two questions Mr. Hine failed to answer. -A heartv vote of thanks and confidence wns accorded him.

Friends of Mr. F. Lacey. of Denbigh road, will lie sorry to hear of the decease of liis father. Mr. Lacey, senv., had reached tlio good age of 71. Farmers about here, as usual, are growling heavily about the weather. It isn't too good—rain nearly every clay.
