A section of th« miners at Broken Hill South decided that in the event of a fatal accident mine employees cea*e work until the victim is buried. The fact that a fall of ground, un'loss immediately picked up, might involve further loss of life, was disregarded. RENTS IN SYDNEY. Sydney, November 24. Giving evidence before the Rent Commission, three city business men stated that their rents kid increased 300 per cent, in the last year. An estate agent declared that rents of dwellings had increased up to 80 per cent., and hei anticipated a further 10 per cent, rise hi the near future. CLOSE SETTLEMENT IN NEW SOUTH '■ WALES. Sydney, November 24. The Lands Department report on the closer settlement scheme to March 31 shows that I&SG farms, embracing 647,390 acres, have been selected on which 5000 persons are residing] The value of improvements and machinery is £628,000. The estates acquired by the Government for closer settlement, to June 30 last, cost £2, 513,000. EX-CLERGYMAN'S REMARKABLE STATEMENT. , Sydney, November 24. The Rev. Mr. Price, whose license was recently withdrawn by Archbishop Donaldson, of Brisbane, is .responsible for the remarkable statement that a great matny of the clergy did not believe in the divinity of Christ and the inspiration of the Bible. They did not openly preach these views, or secede from the church, because their bread and butter depended on their positions.
