LEAGUE'S GENERAL MEETING. . By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, Last Night. The first general meeting of the New Zealand Sports Protection League l was held this evening. The Mayor (Mr. Burnett) presided, there being about two dozen gentlemen present. Mr. Paaipe (secretary of the League) addressed the meeting. He pointed out that the aim of the League was merely defensive and was not ran in connection with the liquor trade. He also com batted this misconception. The Leagiw was nonpolitical, the main objects of it being to promote the retention of the totalizator. The action of the League was not to do anything on Sunday that would be repugnant to those who went to church, but <;vci'y man who worked six days in a week wanted a little irecrav tion .and was quite justified in acting according to his conscience. Mr. P.-vape stated that the League had 10,000 members in Ha wire's Bay.
